Store keepers can have several duties depending on their level of experience, thus the following can be some of the duties included in the job description.

  • Basic duties
A store keeper is one that manages the daily running of the store. In other words, a store keeper will help customers that walk through the door. They will greet them, offer to help them and stand back waiting until the customer is ready to make a purchase. When a purchase occurs a store keeper is going to ring up the sale. They will give cash back where appropriate. It also makes the store keeper a cashier.

A basic level store keeper will clean, restock inventory from the back, and just help the daily running of the store with or without supervision.

  • Manager level
It is possible for a store keeper to also be the manager of the store. A manager will have the same basic duties as the entry level store keeper. They will also have more jobs such as counting the cash register, closing it out, and batch the credit card machine.

They may also set up the deposits that are dropped off at the bank on a daily basis. Answering phones, keeping track of inventory, training other staff and basically using all manager duties is a main job description for the manager store keeper.

  • Sharing of duties
Duties can be shared between multiple store keepers. It will depend on the type of store and the level of the position. An owner can be a store keeper. This owner may be the only clerk in the store given the business they may have.
