I believe the legal age to gain employment in the UK is sixteen, certainly for summer and part time jobs. For a more permanent position they may require you to be older - say, 18 - and with a completed education. Certainly a higher level education will start you on the career ladder, even at Debenhams, rather than keeping you as a low paid shelf stacker for your entire life.
