We fought for the freedoms you have today! Since the Civil War to today, our veterans have fought to protect our homeland and way of life. I'm proud to be a veteran as I have done my duty and part in that everlasting freedom that you have!
what did us veterans do for us?
I didn't do anything for you.
I discharged my duty as a citizen when called to that duty. If some benefit from that duty devolved onto you then so much the better.
