In my opinion, No. Many older houses are built from asbestos sheeting. If it's left alone it doesn't represent a problem. If we start breaking it up by removing it we could create enormous problems.

And that doesn't take into account the zillions of dollars involved in replacing all those old houses. Who could afford such an expense?

Asbestos removal is an important issue because asbestos can cause cancer and other respiratory problems. So it is advised to remove all asbestos products from buildings.

Wearing a good EPA- or OSHA-certified mask while removing asbestos is also important.

It takes more than wearing a mask to safely remove asbestos. The asbestos (if disturbed) will get into your heating system, into all your furniture, all you clothing.. everything. Only certified companies should remove asbestos. And that costs. How much plaster was put in each home in the past which had asbestos.. almost all of it.

Prior to 1975 most insulation was made with asbestos.  Many of the heat pipe or water heater wrappings contained asbestos. Asbestos inhaled into the lungs may cause mesothelioma or a number of other cancers. Hire a professional to remove it.
