She did tell me that she has trouble asking for help. I told her that it was okay - I am just here to help you out. So, I did 7 loads of laundry and did the dishes for her while she nursed baby E and had some uninterrupted cuddle time.

And Yin, you would be the same way. Your hand would be up in the air to volunteer your help in whatever way the new mom would need. It gives me a good feeling to be helpful.

People underestimate the value that washing someone's dishes does for them. People think "Oh it's just dishes" but when you are the one they are washing them for..... It means so much.

Agreed. It could be dishes with scrambled eggs cemented on them. Or cheese that has hardened. Or last night's pots and pans. So, this afternoon when I go over to help, I'm hoping she has some things for me to do.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to just sit and hold that grandbaby, but I remember when my son was so little, there was just so much to do. Sometimes, all I wanted to do was to have some quiet time with him, just to hold him and love him. If I can give her that gift of time with Baby E, I will be very happy.

I'm in Canada, and retired. I taught in a college, worked for a consulting firm in Petro Chemical area air monitoring, and worked in a Steel Foundry as Chief Electrician.
