The Government of India Act was passed by the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It was an act for the purpose of expanding the participation of the natives in the Indian Government. It was applicable for 10 years and provided a dual form of government for main provinces. In  these provinces the control of some areas of government was given to a Government of Ministers who were answerable to the Provincial Council. The rest of the government areas remained under the control of the Viceroy of India.
