In the last round of voting, the senate actually voted to reverse the cuts to veteran pensions by a vote of 95-3

The three senators who tried to vote through $6 billion cuts to military pensions were:

  1. Tom Carper (D-Del.)
  2. Dan Coats (R-Ind.)
  3. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.)

Before this repeal, the House had actually passed this measure by 326-90.

It's also worth noting that the repeal only protects the pensions of current service members. Anyone enlisting from now on can expect to receive reduced pensions.

This issue has really divided the two main parties, and I'm pretty sure the public feel pretty strongly about taking care of the men and women that fight to protect their country.

However, a $6 billion pension cost is no small matter, so in a way you can see why it's such a debatable matter for the House.
