V.K.Singh is the NEW Army General Of India from 1st April, 2010.
General Joginder Jaswant Singh is the present Army general of India.He was born on 17 September,1945,in Bahawalpur which is now in Pakistan.He has also achieved the Param Vishisht Seva Medal.
The present army general of India is General Joginder Jaswant Singh who is also the 22nd General. He came from a family where his father and grand father had both served in the Indian Army. He was born on 17 September 1945 in Bahawalpur which is now in Pakistan. His family migrated to Patiala in Punjab, India after 947. He took charge of the Indian Army on 31 January 2005. He got his training from the National Defence Academy started his career in the 9 Maratha Light Infantry on 02 August 1964. He received the colour of the Battalion from late President Dr. Zakir Hussain in 1968.
Later he had served in many different parts of India and was also sent to Algeria as India's first defence Attaché in 1987.
He had fought against terrorists infiltrating across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir. He was gravely wounded in one of these operations and had received the war wound medal. He also got the award of Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM) on 26 January 2004 for his services. He became Chief of Army Staff on 01 February 2005.
