The great thing about being an English major is that it opens you up to such a broad range of jobs.
Traditionally an English degree would be a great path to teaching, either primary or secondary students. Any sort of arts degree demonstrates that you are disciplined enough to read a range of material, both literature and the academic reviews and responses to it, and to interpret this and write in depth essays and translations. These skills are very transferable, and are looked upon highly by any employer.
English can also be a good route into writing yourself, whether this be creatively in the form of novels, poetry, or as a journalist, copywriter or marketer.
It could also be a stepping stone to further study. Postgraduate programs require the candidate to demonstrate a particular level of learning, and English majors are looked upon favourably for a number of different options.
