When I went to school in the 1940s and early 50s our teachers came armed with bamboo canes which they wielded with enthusiasm.

Only idiots argued with them.

Oh yea .. back in the 'day' where things were much different than they are now. Now it's the kids who wield weapons.

Pfftt .. looking back to those days, and knowing what we know now about corporal punishment where children were whipped with a stick for not abiding, or for NO apparant reason for that matter, teachers (and the nuns, were notorious) for taking out their frustrations on defenseless children .. makes me sick to think about it ..but, those where far different times, back then. The balance of 'hands on' type of consequences were tipped towards being whipped, slapped, degraded, humiliated, my any means was an accepted behaviour. Thankfully, THAT behaviour was was abolished.

However .. Now days, the means of 'punishment' is the exact polar opposite, where teachers hands are tied and school rooms are mayhem .. because the scales have tipped to the other side where there IS no control. Children are being conditioned to be 'in control' and encouraged to be indulgent and self entitled. Believe it or not .. THIS one scares me more than the former.

It worries me too. It's swung too far the opposite way. And, yes, you're right about the humiliation ... that was often used as a teaching aid.

Yes, I have had a few arguments with various teachers and school staff over the years. However it was more frequent when I was in mainstream school. The only times that I still think were  unjustified was when they would pull me up for having long hair. They would then demand I have it cut or tied back, always telling me I can't do practical lessons due to it even though when I did brush it backwards without some sort appliance they would still claim it will only fall forward again

No but I became very stubborn towards a teacher since she hated me to begin with.

No .. I don't think I ever did .. But, that doens't mean I couldn't have.  Just never had anything to 'argue' about.

If you have a problem with a teacher, there is nothing wrong with speaking up .. IF .. And ONLY IF you can do it with respect. There is nothing wrong with having a difference of opinion .. But, it CAN be discussed with a sense of repect to both parties.  You are entitled to your opinion .. However, that does not negate your having to follow the rules that everyone else has to follow.  If your 'arguement' is about following the rules, then .. Hate to break it to you .. There is no arguement.  The rules are the rules. You can vent about it without being rude, but it will not change the stance of it. Like it or not, there are consequences for not following the rules.

It was poker night and I was playing Texas Hold'em poker with my high school English teacher. He folded during a high stakes round and ended up flipping over my cards to see what I had. I threw a tantrum at him for it because nobody should have known that I pulled a bluff. =)

I once argued my score at a Math test. I couldn't care less for the grade, but she was saying I was wrong and that flipped me off. Went to my neighbour (who was also a teacher in the same school) and she confirmed I was right. Top moment of my life, everything is downhill from this point onwards. .. It was 5th grade :/
