A friend has 2 italian greyhounds (12lbs/15lbs) & would like to feed them real food. meat/veggies. What do you suggest and how much should they get of each? (it'd be 2x a day).

That would be better asked of the vet. Greyhounds are skinny dogs to begin with but need a VERY balanced diet to sustain their high energy output. It would be best to leave the fat on the meat, it supplies the dogs with twice the energy than proteins or carbs.

If you are talking about a raw diet, I suggest that your friend go online an check out the BARF diet. (Biologically Appropriate Raw Food) I know several people who do this and many of their dogs are much healthier since switching from processed dog food. People in my area have a hard time finding a decent supplier for organs and such. You need to add those to keep the diet balanced. I chose to go the dehydrated raw route. Everything is already mixed in the right proportions which makes it easier. I switched my dog over about 6 months ago and I can see an imporvement in her coat and activity level, and I had her on a good quality grain free food before the switch.

The thing is, dogs nutritional needs are different from people's nutritional needs. Dog food is made to meet the needs of dogs.
