On a personal level, I read the tabloids strictly for their entertainment value. There is no real news printed in one. What they do print is gossip, stories or pictures about the people they believe will garner them the most readership. Readership means $ in their pocket. I will occasionally buy one of the tabloids when I am going to be traveling for an extended period of time and have nothing else to keep me occupied.
