Currently the figures stand as:

  • 30 journalists killed
  • 2 media assistants killed
  • 145 journalists imprisoned
  • 9 media assistants imprisoned
  • 113 netizens imprisoned
  • This famous non-governmental organization is based in France and aims to continuously support the freedom of the press. They carry out a number of campaigns to spread their message, one of which being the Predators of Press Freedom list. This list identifies the people or groups that are the biggest violators of the issue.
  • They believe there should be no regulations on the internet and everyone should have access to an online server. To support this idea they have a World Day against Cyber Censorship every year, however this is a fairly recent development as it was introduced in 2008.
  • As well as singling out the people against their movement, they also give out awards to those that have been the biggest contributors to their message. For example, they award an annual Neitzen Prize which is given to a blogger or regular internet user that has gone out of their way to advocate freedom of expression. In 2011 the founders of a blogging group based in Tunisia known as Nawaat.org were given the honor.
  • Reporters without Borders also releases a continuous Enemies of the Internet List which identifies the countries that they believe negate any freedom of the press in an online domain. Similar to this, they also have an Under Surveillance list that displays the countries violating their message.
