We rarely care where the lakes and roads are when we're doing trigonometry. Geography is only used in trigonometry to provide problems for trig students.

Trigonometry is used extensively by land surveyors seeking to place boundaries or geographic landmarks on maps. We only know where anyplace is in relation to other places as a result of one or more trigonometric calculations of some sort.
