You'd have to define "small". Some larger churches only offer the director of music a salary or wage, and many smaller churches can't afford to pay musicians. If you want to give your talents back to the Lord and contribute to the worship service for the rest of the congregation, consider it a ministry - the wages might not be appealing, but the benefits are heavenly =)
