There are a few definite requirements of an air hostess on any airline, this includes Sri Lankan Airlines. These requirements are as follows:

• Outstanding customer service

• Outgoing, friendly and personable

• Ability to stay calm under pressure and in an emergency

• Preference tends to be given to those between the ages of 18 and 30

• Flexible approach to working

• Live in an area easily accessible to airport

• Proven reliability and excellent timekeeping

• Well presented and weight proportional to height

• Educated to at least high school standard with good literacy and numeracy skills (a degree in a tourism based subject is beneficial as is knowledge of different languages).

The above criteria basically relate to a person's suitability to be able to do the job well and excel within the company. There are other criteria which are more specific to the individual job vacancy. For example, some job vacancies may request that a person is below a certain height (for a small propeller plane) or above a certain height for large passenger jets. Most vacancies will require applicants to be below a certain weight and have a body weight proportionate to their height. This is primarily to do with available space in the aisle while still maximizing the prominence of staff.

If you feel you have all of the essential attributes and meet all of the relevant requirements, then the next step is to keep your eyes peeled for suitable vacancies. Most vacancies will be advertised on the Sri Lankan Airways website and so it is best to check there as often as possible. It may be worth sending in a current copy of your CV directly to the HR department of your local airport if you are keen to stay living in the local area. Make sure you include as many details as possible which show that you are the ideal candidate for the job and provide references.
