For fashion design, you need all four of your core subjects. You need math for things such as measurements, in textile design, and pattern-making and so on. It is actually helpful to end your math studies with calculus, but you can most likely deal with a lower math. (I'm taking ap calculus my 12th grade year). Next you need to know the history of fashion. This can help you with spotting trends and just knowing your selected career field and more. English is needed because you have to know how to talk to people and communicate with them correctly. You cannot run a business if you don't know how to communicate. (speech might also help) science includes textile also. You need to know the make-up of the body which would be your anatomy. Electives that you may take also could be art (my school offers graphic design as an academy class and I take that too), foreign languages may also help (it could help you reach your selling market into other races and nationalities), business and technology so that you actually know how to work with computers and run your organized business properly, and e-commerce might be another one that would be good for you to take because it allows you to learn how to use the internet to sell your products and offer your business to others whom may not be able to have access to your store. Another thing that might be a good idea to do is look online at careerexplorations.com. They allow you to go to leading fashion markets in the US and some on-board countries, but it costs money to do. If you cannot do this option, you could find locally owned businesses and apply as an intern or employee and learn the task that you will take on as a fashion designer and if this is truly the career choice for you. I hope this helped you and I wish you good luck.
