A gynaecologist basically is a physician who specializes in the treatment of the female reproductive system. To become a gynaecologist you need to complete a (OB/GYN) training program which involves any where between two to four years of advanced medical training in the typical concept and practices which are related to OB/GYN.

This training mainly emphasizes on direct patient care, and it is a must for gynaecologist to attend a recognized medical school before starting training as an OB/GYN expert. As soon as you finish your gynaecology residency you will be eligible for certification by the ACOG and resident need to pass a rigorous set of exams which are managed by the ACOG in order to become board certified.

In simple terms Gynaecology plainly means "the science of women".
