A good mechanic is open to communication. He listens with respect to your opinions, answers your questions clearly.
He is competent. He fixes what's wrong, usually on the first try.If he
promises to phone at a certain time, he does. His final bills are in line with
his estimates.
He is reliable. If he says your car will be ready at a certain
time, it will be. If there is an unavoidable delay, he contacts you.
