You can work in a nursery without qualifications but you will find almost all of them will require qualified staff. You will find much better jobs if you have childcare qualifications also. To be a general nursery assistant you will ideally need:

  • City and Guilds Level 2 Award in Early Years Care and Education

  • CACHE Certificate in Child Care and Education

  • A NVQ / SVQ Level 3 in Early Years Care and Education

You don't generally need formal qualifications to work in a nursery, but a good general education foundation like GCSEs and good grasp in maths and English will do no harm.
