You need to start by taking stock of all your work skills. You need to note that the DHS requires workers with a wide range of skills, just like a large multinational organization would need workers. Accountants, computer scientists and of course case workers. If you haven't got the skills to be a case worker then there's no reason to say why you can't apply for a different job. If you are a professional, make sure that your latest certification is both recognized nationally and up to date.

Then visit the Homeland Security portal on the US jobs website in order to see what vacancies the DHS is looking to fill. If there is a case worker job being offered then apply for that. If not, apply for something else that you may be suitable for. You could contact human resources, too, if you would like to hear from them what jobs are on offer, just in case the website isn't quite up to date with job listings. This could even give you a head start on some job positions.

Find out as much about the job postings that really interest you and take note of the qualifications and the experience that are required in order for you to be a successful applicant. Then follow the instructions that are given to you when you read job postings, in regards to how to apply for the role. The application material will differ for every position, too.

You need to be able to pass a drug test, too. You'll be screened if you've been chosen to work for the department, so as much as you should anyway, be sure that you don't take any drugs at any time, as this will no doubt completely ruin any chances of ever working for the DHS.
