"A salon receptionist is the 'custodial person' for the entire salon" I disagree! The receptionist is the first impression that NEW clients have of YOUR SALON!They are the BACK-BONE of your salon!without them, you will be in dire straights!YES they do also act like the "hostess"!again, the first line of your salon!I chose to not use the term "serving" yet rather "OFFERING" snacks, water, (since most salons do not hold liquor licenses I strongly disagree with the wine statement) coffee, tea and/or soft drinks. 1st & Foremost, the Receptionist is to focus on the phones & appointments,re-booking,& making certain the clients have a great experince~weither it's their 1st or 101st time!also, making certain, then the front area kept cleaned up!magazines put up,tables clean, product shelves cleared.after that THEN "Washing dishes and color bowls; washing, drying, folding towels; sweeping floors; cleaning toilets and sinks; replenishing toilet paper and paper towels; cleaning mirrors, windows, shelves, wall decor; emptying trash and setting out and retreiving the garbage cans"but a lot of this should fall on the stylists shoulders as well! TEAM WORK!!!

The duties of a receptionist are to make appointment, answer the telephone to order stationary, take payments, to welcome clients- take the coats offer them a drink - & a magazine make sure you keep the reception area clean & tidy also to update clients record cards regularly, take messages , and at the end of the day count all the days money ( cashing up ) !! You have a lot of responsibility as a receptionist as you will be the first person the client will see & speak to. You will represent the salon ... !

Oh, there is SO much more to this position than appointment setting! A salon receptionist is the custodial person for the entire salon: Washing dishes and color bowls; washing, drying, folding towels; sweeping floors; cleaning toilets and sinks; replenishing toilet paper and paper towels; cleaning mirrors, windows, shelves, wall decor; emptying trash and setting out and retreiving the garbage cans.   The receptionist is also the hostess, serving snacks and water, wine, coffee, tea and soft drinks.   The receptionist is not allowed to sit at all, does not have breaks or lunch time.   In my opinion, the receptionist deserves your tips as much as your stylist.
